The Making of Us

Do you think we’re shaped more by our experiences or by who we are?

Do I think we’re shaped more by our experiences or by who we are?

I believe our experiences play a significant role in shaping us.

Every experience teaches us something; what to do, what not to do, when to trust, and when to be cautious. They become lessons that influence the decisions we make going forward.

If we’re caught unprepared during an emergency but manage to stay calm, we’ll likely prepare differently the next time. If we give our all to someone who hurts us, we often establish healthier boundaries for the people who come after them.

Our home environment shapes us, too. If we weren’t shown love growing up, expressing love to others may not come naturally. On the other hand, those who were raised in a loving home often find it easier to extend that same love to others.

Our experiences don’t have to define our future, but they certainly influence who we’re becoming. Every challenge, every joy, every disappointment, and every victory leaves its mark. The question is whether we’ll allow those experiences to make us bitter or make us wiser.
