I broke down on the side of the road.

What is the best excuse you have heard lately?

If I had to choose one, it would be this:

“I broke down on the side of the road.”

No further explanation.

Most people would assume my car had broken down.

But in reality,

I broke down.

Not because of a flat tire or a dead battery, but because the weight of life finally caught up with me.

Tears of exhaustion.

Tears of carrying more than I thought I could.

Tears of being a burned-out single parent trying to hold everything together.

Sometimes the greatest breakdowns aren’t mechanical. They’re emotional.

And sometimes, the strongest thing you can do is admit that you need a moment before you can keep moving forward.
