What’s a thing you wish schools actually taught?

I remember Home Ec. teaching practical things that could actually be useful once you left the classroom and entered the real world.

And while we’re bringing things back, I’d bring back spelling as a subject too.

But there’s something else I’d add that I don’t remember being taught enough: credit management.

How does credit actually work?
How does your credit score affect your ability to rent a home, buy a car, or purchase a house?
What’s the difference between good debt and bad debt?
How do you budget, save, manage a bank account, and avoid getting buried in debt?

Those are life skills.

We spend years preparing students to pass tests, but I think we should also prepare them for the realities they’ll face once they leave school.

Teach me algebra, but also teach me how to read a lease.

Teach me history, but also teach me how credit works.

Teach me science, but also teach me how to manage a household.

Because education shouldn’t only prepare us to make a living.

It should prepare us to live.
